Introduction
Brighton College Singapore is a relatively new school that opened in 2020, inheriting the educational philosophy of Britain’s prestigious Brighton College (founded in 1845). The school year is expressed as “Year”, and there are three levels of curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13: Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and A Level. In this article, we will organize the learning content required for Years 7-13 based on information from the official website.
Brighton College Singapore School Overview
Brighton College Singapore is part of the Cognita group of schools and follows the educational philosophy and standards of our UK school. The campus is located on Chuan Lane (approximately 10 minutes walk from Lorong Chuan station) and is EduTrust certified and PEI registered under the Ministry of Education. The school’s core values areCuriosity・Confidence・KindnessWe have established a policy of balancing academic ambition and character development through these three principles.
Overall curriculum for Years 7-13
In Years 7-9 (Key Stage 3), we offer a unique subject that integrates history, geography, philosophy, and religious studies.Story of Our Land”, students will be exposed to a wide range of subjects. From Year 9 onwards, geography and history are separated into separate subjects, and lessons on entrepreneurship education, presentation skills, and AI literacy are also incorporated.
IGCSE for Years 10-11 is a system that allows students to obtain qualifications from both Cambridge CIE and Pearson Edexcel exam boards, and students take 10 standard subjects (6 compulsory subjects, 1 compulsory language subject, and 3 elective subjects). Compulsory subjects include English, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (integrated science), Mathematics, and Physical Education, while elective subjects include Additional Mathematics, Computer Science, Design Technology, Geography, and History.
Year 12-13 A Level (Sixth Form) is a new program that was just opened in August 2026 as a Singapore school. The standard procedure is to choose 4 subjects out of 20 in Year 12, and narrow it down to 3 in Year 13.The school recommends narrowing it down to 3 subjects, saying, “Universities value higher scores in 3 subjects than passing scores in 4 subjects.” A separate qualification called EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) is also available.
Learning required for each grade
Years 7-9 are the period when children acquire basic study habits while being exposed to a wide range of subjects. In Year 10-11 IGCSE, students will study a wide range of 10 subjects in a full-fledged exam format, and this experience is said to form the basis for A Level specialization in Years 12-13. In Years 12-13, students are required to narrow down their studies to 3 to 4 subjects and study deeply in preparation for university applications.
Points that become more difficult as the school year progresses
The quality of learning changes with each grade, from the “broad and shallow” learning style of Key Stage 3, to the full-fledged assessment of 10 subjects at IGCSE, and then to specialization in 3 to 4 subjects at A Level. As the number of subjects is narrowed down, the depth of learning per subject increases at once. This can be a big change for many students.
Possible reasons for poor performance
The reason why grades are sluggish is often that students are unable to respond well to the switch from IGCSE’s “Learn Broadly” learning style to A Level’s “Learn Deeply” learning style. Although it may seem that the burden is lighter at first glance by reducing the number of subjects, the depth of thinking and amount of writing required for each subject increases significantly. We need to review our learning methods themselves.
Things to keep in mind when studying at home and preparing for exams
Brighton College Singapore emphasizes individual instruction and feedback in small classes for both IGCSE and A Level, and continuous progress monitoring is also conducted for A Level. At home, while taking into account the support provided by the school,Organize your areas of strength and interest as early as the subject selection period in Year 11.This will make specialization smoother for Year 12 and beyond.
University entrance results/career support
The passing results such as “98%” posted on the IGCSE/A Level page of the official website are introduced as the 2025 results of the UK school (UK), and are not the original performance data of the Singapore school itself. A Level at the Singapore school was just opened in August 2026, so the track record of graduates going on to higher education has not yet been accumulated.
Career support is led by the Head of Futures.UCAS application support、Professional application support for Oxbridge, Ivy League, etc.、Preparation for entrance exams such as SAT, UCAT, and LNAT, an alumni network that can be used even after graduation.Brighton College Connect‘ is available.
